Kids' art enhances Maritime Festival

The Salisbury Beach Partnership got many parts of the community involved with the Merrimack River Maritime Festival last weekend. Perhaps the most expansive involvement concerned local children, who were part of the Salisbury Youth Maritime Art Exhibit. Read Full Article ...

A Pirate's Life for Me?

This past weekend, Salisbury, MA hosted the first Maritime Festival at the Salisbury State Reservation, featuring a chowder festival, a beer tent, concerts, water competitions, and three gorgeous tall ships open to the public. Our good friends, Mike and Lois, took us to the Captain's Gala Reception the first night that the ships arrived. There was a live Reggae band, a raw bar, hors d'oeuvres, and cocktails. A monsoon moved in just moments after we safely entered the festival tent, and the thunder and lightning and driving rains were truly awe-inspiring! Read Full Article ...

Crowds throng Merrimack River Maritime Festival

SALISBURY BEACH — By noon Saturday, parking lots were almost all full, the tent for the evening's chowder festivities and concert was up and being prepped, free shuttle buses filled with passengers were circling, the fireworks barge was loaded and ready for the night's big show and visitors were everywhere.

"It's been really busy," said Steve Capolupo, whose family business SPS New England was a driving force behind Salisbury's first Merrimack River Maritime Festival.

A captains' tour of the Tall Ships

SALISBURY BEACH — When the Roseway's keel was laid, and her ribs, planks and deck hued and sealed at John James family's shipyard in nearby Essex, it was the height of the Roaring '20s, and this classic 137-foot Grand Banks Fishing Schooner was decked out in the best materials.

Built in 1925 and commissioned by Harold Hathaway of Taunton, she wasn't destined to be a working fishing schooner but designed instead for swiftness. Hathaway intended to beat the Nova Scotians in the international fishing vessel races of the 1920s and 1930s. Read Full Article ...

'We run them hard' Tall Ship serves as unique summer camp

As the sun made its way up the crisp blue sky Wednesday morning, flocks of sailboats rested comfortably in Newburyport harbor, rocking up and down, almost sleepily, with the slight wake of the few fishing boats making their way out to sea.

But as the ships dozed in their moorings, on the horizon sat a vessel with masts that stood tall and alert, awake and ready to take on the Merrimack River. Read Full Article ...

Festival makes for a cool day at the beach

SALISBURY — Hooded sweat shirts were definitely the order of the weekend, but the second annual Sand and Sea Festival still drew a crowd of faithful fans who love Salisbury Beach and enjoyed the events organizers worked a year to present.

A gray sky, cool, windy weather and a healthy ocean mist didn't live up to the perfect summer days last year's inaugural festival enjoyed, but nothing diluted the spirits of the festival patrons or its producers, the Salisbury Beach Partnership. Read Full Article ...

Surf, Sand, and Sea Doos Salisbury Beach Festival Offers More Than Fun and Sun

SALISBURY — It's a shame Mother Nature was in a sour mood this weekend, because everyone involved with the 2008 Salisbury Sand and Sea Festival certainly were not.

The music was rising, the food salivating, the rides spinning, and the ageless soul of the crowd was alive with families and friends. And despite over cast skies, a nagging mist, and some serious chop in the water, the events and plans organized by the Salisbury Beach Partnership executive director Kathy Aiello, came to fruition regardless of how the elements were behaving. Beach brings back the rides Bumper cars, roller coaster return for the weekend

SALISBURY — When cousins Brian and Tim Mulcahy recall the Salisbury Beach Center of their youth, they remember the rides their fathers owned and ran.

Those rides bring back epic memories for many who knew Salisbury Beach in the old days. Read Full Article ...

Want to hang 10?: Seabrook surfing company will offer lessons at Sand and Sea Festival

SEABROOK — A general consensus among surfers that New England waters aren't good for catching waves is unfair.
If any of those doubtful wave-riders had the chance to talk to Michael "Zap" Paugh, the owner of Seabrook's Zapstix Surf Shop, there's no question they would leave with an altered perspective. Read Full Article ...
